Going international and the shows in Oporto, Lisbon and Leiria
Club Makumba started the year 2022 with the release of their eponymous debut album in January and with the presentation show that sold out the Centro Cultural de Belém, as part of a tour that has toured the country from north to south and important international stages. After a summer of being present at major festivals such as Vodafone Paredes de Coura, FMM Sines, MEO Kalorama, among other important events, Club Makumba begin their international journey. In September they performed at Festival Boreal in Tenerife and in October they took part in the opening ceremony of WOMEX in Lisbon, the largest World Music fair in the world, as part of the show "Lisbon Sounds - The new traditional Lisbon" which presented musical projects that reinvent the Portuguese tradition. They were also the first Portuguese band selected for the programming of BIME Pro in the city of Bilbao, a festival of showcases and conferences, which includes professionals from the music industry from around the world. In 2023, the presence of Club Makumba at the Festival EUROSONIC in Groningen, the Netherlands is already confirmed. Until then, the quartet will perform on 6 November at the Coliseu do Porto at Sala Novo Ático and on 13 November at the Leiria City Museum. The year ends with a big concert at Musicbox in Lisbon, on the 23rd of December, which will have the accordionist João Barradas as a special guest.
