Expresso Transatlântico

Expresso Transatlântico is a musical journey blending the influences of Portuguese tradition with contemporary global sounds. The international journey of Gaspar Varela, Sebastião Varela, and Rafael Matos began at the Opening Ceremony of WOMEX 2022, marking the start of a new chapter. In recent years, the project has performed at major festivals, including MUMI (Galicia, Spain), Colors Of Ostrava (Czech Republic), FMM Sines, Paredes de Coura, NOS ALIVE, Festival Med, EUROSONIC Noorderslag, and more recently at Primavera Sound, Bons Sons, and representing Portugal at the Buenos Aires Book Fair. Their debut album, Ressaca Bailada, released in 2023, appeared on several “Best of the Year” lists in the national press and was presented to sold-out audiences throughout the year, with over twenty shows nationally and internationally. Late 2024 will bring the “concert film” the band is preparing, written and directed by Sebastião Varela.
